Gold Coast dental implant tooth replacement
Missing teeth not only harm your appearance, they can also create oral health problems. Dental implants are a complete tooth replacement option, not just a cosmetic cover-up.
A dental implant results in a replacement that for all intents and purposes looks like a fully functional, natural-looking tooth. Just as importantly, the implant also acts as a substitute for the root of the missing tooth. This prevents jawbone deterioration and any subsequent shifting of surrounding teeth, which can often cause alignment issues and teeth overcrowding.
Compared to other tooth replacement options, dental implants have many advantages:
+ Secure and stable, particularly compared to other common tooth replacement options like dentures.
+ Dental implants appear life-like and natural – when professionally placed, the results can be almost imperceptible
+ By filling the void left by your missing teeth, dental implants can prevent bone loss – this halts any sunken or 'hollowed' appearance in the face and maintains your jawbone health.
+ The main component of a dental implant is made of titanium, a biocompatible metal synonymous with longevity. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
Would dental implants work for me?
While many people are eligible for dental implants, some conditions can affect whether implants are a suitable option – these include gum disease or other oral health issues. Before undertaking treatment, we will perform a full evaluation including x-rays to ensure suitability. Because the implant is attached directly to your jaw, the condition of your jaw bone is also a factor in determining if dental implants are right for you.
What steps are involved with dental implants?
Before the implant process taking place, we'll book you in for an evaluation. During this full consult and check-up, we'll discuss dental implants and evaluate your oral health requirements to determine whether they're the right option for you.
Dental implants comprise of two main components – a biocompatible titanium 'screw' that is attached to your jaw, and a custom dental crown attached to it that mimics the appearance of a natural tooth. The permanent dental crown component of the dental implant is custom designed for you and will be ordered from our local laboratory partners. The titanium screws component of your implants will then be placed.
Once you have healed sufficiently from the titanium screw placement, you may receive a temporary crown over the implant whilst we wait for your permanent crown to return from the dental lab.
Once the permanent crown is ready you'll return to have it placed, and the fit and appearance of your dental implant will be checked. Then it's time to show off your new smile!
